October Book Box Club time! Spoiler: I properly loved this box. It’s one of my favourite subscription boxes I’ve ever received.
Book Box Club sends you one new YA release each month along with 4 -6 bookish goodies that fit that month’s theme. Every box comes with an invitation to the online Book Box Club book group, which hosts a monthly chat with the author of the selected book.
October’s theme was Quests and Legends. LET’S GET INTO IT!
- Mountain earrings from kateslittlestore
- Game of Thrones BABY DRAGON STICKERS from WildSally
- Books are Better bookmark from HughesLaserDesigns
First things first: LOOOOOOK AT THOSE BABY DRAAAAAAAGONS! I want to stick them on everything. EVERYTHING! Tiny tiny baaaaaaabies!
Ahem. I’m giving my mountain earrings to my wife, because I legit cannot bear to touch wood. (Insert lesbian jokes here. So many, many lesbian jokes.) When I first took them out of the box I thought they were little smores but NO! Mountains! You can have ADVENTUROUS EARS!
The bookmark is a little too wide for me to easily use in books – I feel like it might just fall out? but then I never can get the hang of bookmarks – but I totally see myself using it in a million photos.
Real talk: I had to go wash this mug for this post because, although I usually leave everything in the box until I take unboxing photos, I wanted to use it IMMEDIATELY. It’s so so gorgeous in a way I don’t think photos do justice. It’s, like, a great mug for cradling and staring at the ATMOSPHERIC NIGHT WOODS and the SNOW and this COOL LADY who reminds me a bit of Debbie from The Wild Thornberries, and thinking about HOW GREAT WINTER IS AND HOW MUCH BOOKS ARE THE BEST. Or, you know. Whatever you like to do with your hot drinks. Your mileage may vary.
AND NARNIA HOT CHOCOLATE. Come with me for a second back to, like, six year old Moog, the most in love with the White Witch that anyone has ever been. She was terrifying and I adored her. How many times did I reread the bit in the Lion, the Witch, & the Wardrobe where Edmund gets in her sleigh and she magics him up hot chocolate? BAZILLIONS. (Also the bit in Magician’s Nephew where she rides a hansom cab down a London street but like, that’s not as relevant here.)
The NOISE I made when I got this NARNIA FOREST HOT CHOCOLATE out of this box? INHUMAN. HOWLING NARNIAN FOREST CREATURE SOUNDS OF DELIGHT.
- A Shiver of Snow and Sky – Lisa Lueddecke
I hadn’t heard of this book before I received it, but it sounds AMAZING. It’s a fantasy in which the sky lights up in different colours as messages – like, premonitions/warnings etc – and everything kicks off when one night the sky lights up red, which means danger. Like. SIGN ME UP FOR YOUR SNOWY VILLAGE SKY MYSTERY, PLEASE AND THANK YOU. When I’m done rereading His Dark Materials (which, no, I’m not done yet, the book is enormous and I’ve been lazily not taking it on the tube <.<), I think this is next up.
Plus, it makes me think of this countryside saying I was told as a kid: red skies at night, shepherds’ delight; red skies in morning, shepherds’ warning. I have used this to guess the upcoming weather since like age three. I’m basically, like, a hedgewitch. *hair toss*
ANYWAY, the December Book Box Club theme is Winter Fairytales and boxes are available now! There are going to be two books and a bunch of fairytale-related goodies, so if that sounds as much of your cup of jam as it does mine, get thee hence!
If you’d like to read my September Book Box Club unboxing, you can find it here.
Moog Florin currently has quite cold feet in very cute socks.
